Bois de Sioux Board Meetings: The Bois de Sioux Watershed District Board of Managers meets regularly on the third Thursday of each month, generally for a half of a day starting at 8:00 a. April through October and at 9:00 a.m. November through March, in the District conference room (unless otherwise stated on the meeting agenda). The public is welcome to attend!
PUBLIC MEETING CHANGE
The Bois de Sioux Watershed District regular November monthly meeting will be held November 26, 2024 at 9:00 am at the District Office at 704 Highway 75 in Wheaton, Minnesota. The November 21, 2024 meeting is cancelled.
PUBLIC HEARING
On Thursday, November 26, 2024 at 9:30 AM, the Bois de Sioux Watershed District will hold a public hearing at its office located at 704 Hwy 75 South, Wheaton, Minnesota 56296, to present and discuss the proposed assessments for the Lake Traverse Water Quality Improvement Project No. 1. Public comment will be received for two proposed assessments, from the Supplement:
- The proposed assessment for construction of the project is provided on the supplement in Column A1. If approved at the hearing, landowners could prepay this amount without interest costs by sending payment to the Traverse County Auditor, PO Box 428, Wheaton, MN 56296. Prepayments will be accepted through January 31, 2025. After this date, the approved amount will be amortized over a 10-year term at 1% interest; the estimated amortized annual assessment is provided on the supplement in Column A2.
- The proposed assessment for maintenance and repair needs (for example, cattail, brush, and tree growth control) is provided on the supplement in Column B. The maintenance and repair assessment will appear separately on future parcel property tax statements. In the future, District staff will annually review project maintenance needs for consideration by the Bois de Sioux Watershed District Board, who consider approval of assessments annually in August/September and December.
Please note that assessment amounts may be impacted by parcel changes in the water management district; for example, if a parcel that is currently assessed is transferred to a tax exempt entity, the parcel may no longer contribute to water management district assessments.
The success of this project is due in large part to the commitment of landowners to advocate and implement a solution. This project was recognized by a statewide award by the Minnesota Erosion Control Association. Approximately 93% of this project was financed by outside grant sources, including Legacy Amendment Clean Water Funds administered by the Board of Water and Soil Resources and Department of Natural Resources, and funds from the Red River Water Management Board. The project features two miles of stabilized channel, boulder and rock riffle structures, permanent rock checks positioned to create natural pools and riffles, and flattening/widening of the channel profile in areas through a series of stair-steps and widening of the channel cross-sections.
